Are There Things to Do In Cozumel?

At TopCozumelNews, we help people traveling to Cozumel plan their trips and activities using information collected on our trips to the beautiful island.

Cozumel is one of the world’s premier cruise ship ports and welcomes hundreds of thousands of tourists each year.
Cozumel features three main cruise piers that cater to specific cruise lines.
Punta Langosta Pier is located near San Miguel de Cozumel (also referred to as the island’s “capital”). Norwegian, MSC, and Holland America cruise ships usually dock here for port calls.

Many people are like me in that their first trip to Cozumel was on a cruise ship. After visiting Cozumel many times and falling in love with the island and the people, we started making extended land-based stays in Cozumel.

Are There Cruise Port Locations in Cozumel?

Cozumel is one of the busiest ports in the Western Caribbean, and many cruise lines make stops here on their itineraries. There’s much to see and do here, from visiting Mayan ruins to shopping, snorkeling, and much more!
Cozumel boasts three major cruise piers, and it is important to understand where your ship will dock before disembarking. Puerta Maya, International, and Punta Langosta all provide shops, restaurants, and attractions suited for disembarkation.
Cozumel cruise port area boasts many hotels that provide visitors with convenient accommodations at reduced costs while taking full advantage of all that Cozumel has to offer while on vacation. Staying here may also save money and provide the chance to experience everything this island paradise has to offer!
Nearly all major cruise lines dock at this pier, including NCL, Disney, Oceania, MSC, Regent, and Silversea – however, you should contact each individual cruise line to see where their ships plan on docking.
Cozumel Pier is just a short stroll from Downtown San Miguel, Cozumel’s largest city and must-visit destination. Additionally, this pier serves as the starting point for numerous excursions to San Gervasio Mayan Ruins, Playa del Carmen, or Tulum.
As soon as you step off of the pier, the Punta Langosta Mall awaits, with kiosks and vendors selling souvenirs and snacks, as well as stores selling pure vanilla extract, hammocks, handmade wool blankets, and jewelry.
Cozumel shopping begins here! Here, you’ll find plenty of souvenir shops with affordable products at high-end stores, as well as smaller independent local shops offering more competitive pricing.
Cozumel boasts many beaches, but for optimal relaxation, it is best to avoid those near the cruise port. These tend to be less pleasant and filled with tourists and vendors; there are, however, several more secluded options with private access and fewer crowds nearby.

Are There Taxis on Cozumel?

Cozumel is an increasingly popular cruise destination, hosting many cruise lines, including Disney, NCL, MSC Oceania, and Silversea. While not as crowded or popular as other Mexican locations, Cozumel still provides plenty of activities and things to do!
While you might be tempted to walk around the port for entertainment purposes, most popular attractions are often quite far away and require transportation; taxis in this region are convenient and economical options available to get you where you need to be.
Taxis are available from both the International Cruise Terminal and Puerta Maya Piers as well as downtown San Miguel for easy travel arrangements through cruise lines or through taxi stands.
The International Pier is Cozumel’s main cruise-ship pier, serving both Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises, as well as being home to shops and restaurants such as Diamonds International and Piranha Joe’s; additionally, there is also a convenience store, excursion pier, and pharmacy on site.
San Miguel Port is an ideal spot to find authentic Mexican restaurants and some of the island’s top beach clubs and beaches, all within a mile-and-a-half radius of downtown San Miguel. A taxi will cost about $8 per person (up to four people can ride together).
Los Cincos Soles offers authentic Mayan crafts at reasonable prices – making for the ideal place to escape the hot climate! Their air-conditioned store provides an oasis from the hot weather while their prices for genuine items are truly impressive.
There are also bars and shops nearby for entertainment or snacking purposes if shopping isn’t your cup of tea. But the real star attraction at this pier is el Museo, an archaeological museum that showcases its history as well as important artifacts found at archeological sites.
Reduce time and money wasted at the cruise center by cutting through Amorino’s. This is the quickest route to the transportation area outside the cruise complex, saving time as well as passing through numerous additional stores looking for souvenirs.
